>>Two Blogs I’ve starting reading again and wonder why I ever went away: My Old Kentucky Blog [new and frequently American indie and rock and that little bit extra from the state that has more farms per square mile than any other U.S. state] // Stereogum [The worlds most popular music blog from the blog that pretends not to be a 51% Celebrittany blog 51% of the time - an enjoyable read - gossip and leaked music quick and often]
Music from Metafilter Music where users of the Community Weblog upload their own music. “Upbeat acoustic indie folk rock blues! Most of my songs are about drinking. ” Antonio Lulic is a licensed busker and makes music the it should all be made; with the utmost honesty, with the killer chorus, and with the abrupt and very neccessary ending.

Todays links which were previously in this post have their own post now - and they include the mp3s that you may be seeking should you have come from The Hype Machine
When I first heard of The Wombats it was in relation to a massive gig they were playing in China to thousands of people. Then I find out they’ve got some records on indie label Kids. Now I’m sure they’ll be snapped up by major (if they haven’t been yoinked already) on the strength of the a little over-radio friendly indie pop (not to be confused with indie-pop) tune “Lost in the post”. I smell re-release all over this track. I feel there being an inevitability about me falling out with The Wombats, when they get signed by a major and stop writing great music. But that’s just me and for now theyareours. The best indie pop song I have heard since Los Campesinos.
If you like that you’ll love “Moving to New York” (mp3) I can’t wait to hear some Chinese indie bands inspired by western indie-rock increasingly being shipped over there…
Best of August post tomorrow, podcast the day after.
I’d be really intrested to hear if you are still enjoying the blog after a couple of months of posting and whether you dig the format I’ve got going - new music in every post and a few links tagged on the end. Is there anything you’d like to see more or less of? Post your locations in the world if you comment - I’d love to know where you are reading from.
It’s either quirky and jagged Indie-pop music or Electric Folk with an abrasive edge that rubs you inside as the band go through you. Leader of the pack Megan Thomas adds an additional few dimensions to the band based in Southamption on the South Coast of England. She helps the 2 guitars swapping notes at the back find their voice and let the rest of the class here it. Her mesmeric Cat-Power-in-her-grunge-years style works becase the band can really accomodate it and complement it with guitar music that transcend twangy and the search for that killer riff. I think they don’t need it because the power and character rests with the afformentioned lead singer - the rest of the band hold her afloat and make her release it all.
Jordan @ Said the Gramphone beautifully persuades us to hear Huey “Piano” Smith and The Clowns - “Don’t You Just Know It”.
The transvestite, playing the female character, sings “Baby, don’t believe I wear two left shoes,†and winks at you. You blush. The cyclops plays the male character, but since his voice is cyclops-deep and he doesn’t speak any English, it’s pretty much impossible to understand him.
Endless Summer: The best, and cheesiest surf film ever made. Since 1966 it has held that honour. It’s only really cheesey on reflection and in hindsight - but it sure plays out like a parady. The soundtrack by the Sandals is unassuming and essential to the film being called “A dazzingly ode to Sun, Sand and Surf.” by Time. How anyone could not get immense enjoyment this film is beyong me.
The population of the U.S can breath a sigh of relief that they won’t have to endure a Keane + Razorlight tour after Keane frontmen Tom something was admitted to Rehab for eating to many sweeties and drinking too much Panda pop.
It’s great because it’s honest. It’s honest because it’s unique and they aren’t trying to hard. They don’t need to try too hard because they know how to play instruments and make folk, country and blues music with an english accent sound unlike anything you are likely to here anywhere else anytime soon. It makes me think of old country-blues ghosts hovering around trying to convince you of something that you come to accept around the 2:02 mark - a relevation about where to look when you walk past sometime you’re trying to avoid. Another song to put in the - finishes at the perfect moment pile. Sometimes I’ll listen to a lot of a bands music to see if there’s something better. I didn’t bother this time - this is pretty perfect. Go Team meets Beirut for those who like ill-concieved modern music allusions.

"...Afrobeat has gone all desert-storm, with instrumental precision: an assault of funk and drum... the sandstorm churned up behind it betrays kilowatts of energy and a solar rhythm" [11th May: more] | [Photo credit]
"A capital E "Epic" of Eastern-European styled folk. A real tale, more than observations of bad poets lost, blind, feeling their way around in urban jungles... nothing is given away until the story tells it, the moment that you start to hear and feel the twists and turns."
