Music: Royal Treatment Plant: Indie Punk

The band VS band ruckus after ‘Generic Enterprise and Freudian Metaphysics 101′ at Poptown’s art school yet again fails to reveal any individuality in these bland, awkward post punk types.

Well The Royal Treatment plan are a different band. They are the ones who didn’t even bother going to class: they already know it all. They are not afraid to throw the first punch, they aren’t afraid to get stuck in and they are making some promising and enduring music in the process.

You Don’t Need Me” and “Trained” are post-punk tales we have heard whispered before, but you’d usually have to travel about 3500 miles from London to New york to witness it delivered with such velocity and precision. R.T.P are Britains answer to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth induced rock, pop and punk sensibilities. The subtle and almost melodramatic Princecess P “makes the dark side seem attractive” and with delivery like hers it won’t be long until we all succumb to it, to the power and to The Force.

  1. You missed the ‘t’ off Plant, and I think I missed seeing these guys support Los Campesinos! a few days ago. No-one wins.

  2. I kind of saw them at the LC! show on monday. By kind of, I mean I walked out after two songs. Combined with the heat of the venue, they really didn’t come over well at all so we headed out for a bit. They seemed kind of bland live, although I’d never really heard of them before.

That said, I got their single this morning and while not amazing me, I’m quite liking it. I don’t know whether they just had a bad night or I was just in entirely the wrong mood for them or something, but the recording certainly works better than their live show.

On a vaguely connected note, I’m pretty certain I saw you at the LC! show a couple of times Mr k, but I had no idea who you were until afterwards :)

  3. i know what you mean about the start of the set but if you’d endured the heat… i think it might have been initial nerves or playing to someone elses crowd… but by the end of it they were sounding better than the recorded stuff i’ve heard so far. JK

  4. Mr k - Fixed. Cheers!

Eddie - I look forward to reading your review - the Drowned In Sound one seemed pretty accurate from what I’ve been hearing - far to much buzz, perhaps too much expectations - L.C weren’t too happy with their set I don’t think

Jesuskaty - It’s good to here they pulled it off - I thought when I first heard these tracks that they could be brilliant live.
