Jonquil

MP3: Jonquil - Lions
Grandiose in a run down country house kind of way. Perhaps a lament to the old hedges carved to take the form of a pride of lions, but now, sadly but a shadow of their former sense. A metaphor that strikes me so much more the when Aslan died in The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. I never really got that.
Jonquil are, despite above literating, a band from Oxford who released an album way back last year. They sound distant, the accordian is walking away slowly from something, and taken with it a bedroom full of orchestration. It all makes me want to join them. It’s like folk music recovering from the revolution: rejuvination and lost memories of the songs that rallied them.

Amazing track. I hope you weren’t waiting as long as I was to finally receive the song from them!
Wow, this is really nice too. I shall be off to order this right away. And they’re playing Edinburgh soon too, which is ace.
Go and see them live, they are every bit as good in person as this track (and the rest of their recorded stuff) would lead you to believe…
Hey Joel - yeh I’m going to see them play a festival in Leeds - I’m looking forward it muchly.
If you get the chance, Jonquil are a band that need to be seen to be truely believed. In a run-down, crappy bar in a dead-end town that tends to attract no-one but Daniel O’Donnel, Jonquil stood out like a shining light, and I have a strong feeling ‘Lions’ is going to become one of the tracks that epitomises this year for me.
